Finding Motivation to Persist When on the Brink of Giving Up
Update: July 2, 2021
I’m dishing four quick ways to find the motivation when you really feel like giving up.
We all like to set goals. It’s those New Years’ goals that we make with high hopes- telling ourselves things will be different this year. Because we have changed and grown so much a
But the reality is we make tons of goals and then lose steam within ugg a few months.
So the real mystery or key to this is learning how to keep yourself motivated and disciplined.
To find the perfect motivation to achieve your goals. Every single time ultimately depends on your reason.
By hacking into your “WHY,” you can learn how to set goals with a purpose.
STEP #1 DEFINE YOUR PRIORITIES
In part 1, we defined our priorities to identify where we need to put our focus.
Related: Step by step guide to goal setting.
By identifying where your content is at in your life, you can see the areas with low numbers and start working on those categories first.
Your priories in life and values in life will change from time to time, so be sure to do this at least once a year.
You can create your own categories or use mine ( printable wheel in part 1).
- Family & friends
- Love
- Self
- Education
- Career
- Health
- Fun
- Spirituality
- Money ( obtain more money, reduce debt, save money or invest it)
Rate each category on a scale from 1-10. So, that 1 = unsatisfied and 10 = extremely satisfied.
The goal is to be at a place that you are comfortable. It doesn’t necessarily mean you need to have a 10 in each category because we are not looking for perfection.
I mean, does perfection really exist? If so, please let me know.

STEP #2 WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU- -RIGHT NOW?
Now that you have placed the numbers next to your life goals area. Next, you need to identify what is considered YOUR top two priorities.
Two is a good starting point. Plus, it allows you to divide the right amount of attention and motivation to a specific goal.
Besides, with too many goals at once, it doesn’t give you room for unexpected events.
So let’s focus on two goals allow so you don’t burn yourself out.
Yes, there is such thing as tackling too many goals at once.
As moms, it’s common to try to be good at everything and be there for everyone. But, honestly, that will cause anyone to stress you out. So….to take baby chunks.

STEP #3 HAVE YOU HACKED INTO YOUR “WHY”?
Once you find what …then you need to know the “why.”
For example, my goal is to have my own business, so the first thing is to connect with my WHY.
Meaning, why start in the first place.
It’s the prime reason people don’t achieve their goals or become disconnected from the goal altogether.
Listen if you’re why does not connect to your purpose, motivate you to keep going, inspire you when times are hard, or drive you to show up THEN the goal can easily fall down the chain of priority and end up a distant dream. Click To Tweet
If you’re why does not connect to your purpose, motivate you to keep going, inspire you when times are hard, or drive you to show up, THEN the goal can easily fall down the chain of priority and end up a distant dream.
And we don’t want that!
Example of a Weak WHY
Pursuing a dream for the wrong reason is an extremely weak WHY. For instance, going to college because you are searching or pleasing. Searching for money or seeking approval.
Those are weak whys. You will not become rich by JUST going to college, but you may end up in debt like me. Haha.
In addition, looking for approval will not push you through the hard times or ultimately make anyone happy. So don’t do it if it’s just for the purpose stated above.
Example for a strong WHY
If you are going back to school, make sure it is based on a good purpose.
For example, I am going to college because “I have a passion for healing animals.” I always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. Or I want to go to college because it adds to my character.
These are good and strong reasons because you are doing it for YOU.
STEP #4 HOW TO HACK INTO YOUR WHY
To get inside a find out your WHY… you need to dig deep. Not a superficial reason but a reason that speaks to who you are.
Whatever you decide is your goal remember for the goal to be strong. It’s the WHY that motivates you to keep going, so connect with your Why.
You’re why should drive you and keep you connected to your mission.
