Headspace is a great place for beginners who are unfamiliar with meditation or the benefits of it to start.
Guided meditations for beginners offer a great way to address difficulties like compassion, gratitude.
Besides, when your mind is overloaded with work tension or learning how to keep little people alive, listening to a short story, having someone remind you to take deep breaths, or how to be more present in your mind can be very effective.
The Pros and Cons of Headspace
Let’s get down to business now that you know a little more about Headspace. The benefits and drawbacks. While I thought the software was great, a few things stood out to me above others, as well as a few that didn’t meet the mark.

- While I generally keep my phone notifications turned off, this will be an exception since it is useful to have a reminder thought the entire day.
- It’s about $6 a month, which is an added bill to the subscriptions list.
- The guided meditations are too short.
- Another meditation for moms app on your phone that can be unused if you not committed
- The app could be more straightforward; initially, I didn’t know how to extend the time for meditations.
If you are in a need of getting your life in order or reducing the overwhelm then this is worth it. If price is an issue then give up something for a few months like Netflix. Or try a different app that offers free mediation which I will get into in a few.
Why should you listen to me?
And I get it.
It can be hard to find time for ourselves.
Let alone get good sleep. I for one still struggle with sleep routines since my youngest has eczema which keeps her up all night.
So having something help us unwind and sleep is a plus.

I am still working on a sleep routine but overall I have the basics. We read 2 books before bed, sometimes sit and take breaths or do yoga.
I really enjoy this app helps with sleep stories for adults and kids to help the entire family fall asleep easier.
There are several different sleep stories available, all with their very own calming narrator who gently guides your child into a restful state of mind and body.
Sleep stories are so much better for kids when it’s shorter than the regular content which also makes them more effective.

There are two types of subscriptions to the Headspace app:
If you are new to meditation or want to change up your current routine then I recommend this app. If you are already experienced then I would suggest looking into other apps since there is a monthly fee.

- Are there different pricing options? The annual plan of 96 yearly comes out to 5.68 a month. Or you can just pay monthly for 12.99
- Where can you get the best price? They have student rates 9.99/year. The Headspace Student plan is currently only available for students within the United States who are attending a degree-granting Title IV college.
- Is there a money-back guarantee? Headspace states “We currently offer a 30-Day Money Back Guarantee on the initial purchase for our membership plans. To be eligible for a refund, we require a request to cancel your membership within 30 days of the initial purchase.”
Personally, I think the paid version is worth it. Here’s why:
- There are several distinct courses to participate in.
- There’s something for everyone, including family, focus, stress reduction, and mindfulness
- They offer guided and unguided meditations
- A great way to learn to manage feelings and thoughts with mindfulness sessions
- Easy way to keep yourself grounding and present when life gets hecked
These apps have their own unique features, and I’ve found that they all work well for different things.
For example, I like to use Headspace when I’m trying to focus on a task and need some help getting in the right state of mind or to take a few minutes to recenter myself.
Is Headspace Better Than Calm?
I prefer Headspace to Calm, but it’s simply a question of personal taste. The interface is slightly more complicated than Calm, but the meditations are fantastic and beautifully narrated.
I found that Calm was great for helping me relax with the natural sound but it reminds me of youtube relaxing sound which is free.
But, I didn’t want to give a biased review so I went to Reddit to get others’ perspectives.
- My perfect program would be Headspace’s 365 with an option for longer sessions with more silence.
- As someone with ADHD, I actually love headspace and the guided meditations quite a bit, as I feel it’s easier to get my mind in gear when there’s something to focus on
- Headspace is what finally got me into a regular practice. In one of sessions in the first 10 (free) he says something to the effect of “when you find yourself thinking, and you will, over and over again, just return to the breath”. Since then I’ve heard that repeatedly from every source of info on mindfulness meditation. You will find yourself thinking, and that’s fine and perfectly normal, just go back to watching your breath. That is the key lesson of any of these apps. Beyond that just use whichever one suits you.
- It comes down to your own preference, I tried Headspace, there was something with his voice that didn’t calm me down, I can’t remember why I just wasn’t relaxed during those sessions. I really enjoy Calm’s sessions, the different methods Tamara presents us with, and I really like her voice, it has a very calming effect on me.
Who is Headspace right for?
Some people may find that they can focus better when they have something to focus on, which is where Headspace can come in handy. For example, if you’re trying to finish a project at work but keep getting interrupted, you can use Headspace to help you stay on task.
Or, if you’re struggling with anxiety or stress, Headspace can provide you with a variety of exercises and guided meditations to help you manage your feelings.
I am big on personal development, inner work and growth. The App has guided techniques for grounding , releasing unwanted energy and fostering a positve mindset.
The app also has a section specifically for kids, which can teach them how to breathe and meditate.
Headspace isn’t perfect, but it still does a fantastic job. The app has a ton of meditations and exercises to help you learn mindfulness and get in touch with yourself. And while it may not be for everyone, there’s a decent chance that it could work for you.

Who should avoid Headspace?
If your main goal with using an app like this is to focus on one specific task or project, then Headspace might not be the best fit for you.
The meditations are great but they take up time that could have been spent doing work.
And while this may seem counterintuitive, some people find that too much mindfulness meditation makes them less productive at their jobs because they’re constantly thinking about how to do other things in their lives.
If that sounds like something that would happen to you then I’d recommend trying another service instead of Headspace.
It’s also possible that it won’t be worth your time if you’re a seasoned meditator. You may not find meditation apps helpful at all.
If you’re a parent looking for help to be more preesent and increase focus, headspace is an great tool.
I’ve personally used this app with my own family and it has been transformative in many ways, its a great way to start mornings & end nights.
